School Council

Jeparit Primary School is supported by an active school council made up of staff, parents and community members. Council meets twice a term after school and meetings are advertised in the school newsletter.

Council meetings are open meetings unless otherwise stated. Any community members are welcome to observe.

Council’s main roles are:

  • developing the strategic plan
  • approving the annual budget
  • policy development
  • setting expectations for behaviour and dress code within department guidelines
  • taking into account the views of the whole community when making decisions
  • financial oversight
  • ensuring buildings and grounds are maintained
  • employing local staff such as the school cleaner
  • approval of camps and out-of-hours excursions
  • promoting the school
  • fundraising

Council does not:

  • manage the running of the school, for example employing staff, assigning children to classes
  • discuss issues relating to individual teachers, students or parents
  • represent specific interest groups or permit specific interests to dominate the agenda of council
  • purchase land, buildings or vehicles
